ROUNDABOUTS!

Because so many people seem to have failed to learn these simple round about laws, they keep on changing them in NSW. I think they have been changed about 4 times in the last couple of years, so at law, what is written below may be out of date by the time you read it!  When all esel fails, common sense must prevail!  Do whatever you do safely (read with care).

I just do not have the time to modify this page every time they change the laws, seemingly at a whim!

I wonder how many people actually have learnt the new round- about laws? Precious few, I would say, judging by the number who appear to display a state of absolute confusion when they encounter one.

There are little brochures available at all RTA offices. What price is 10 minutes spent collecting one of these and studying it in such a manner as to actually comprehend what is written, when you compare it to the time that is lost due to a crash ?

I will try to condense it to a few lines here, but there is no substitute for actually obtaining the information from the source!

    Now for some common sense.

If there is a semi-trailer or a B-Double ahead of you on the roundabout, do not try and compete with it. I can tell you that when a vehicle of this size is "bent in the middle" to the right as it turns with the roundabout, visibility to the rear is non existent on the left hand side. This is due to the fact that the front of the trailer impedes rear vision during articulation. When (s)he turns out of the round- about, the trailer(s) will track in, and if you have been hiding there out of sight, you may have a closer encounter than you would choose with a 20 inch tyre and rim.

Please get the book from the RTA and learn the new rules.  They seem to change them periodically!
