Indy's Road Safety Tips Introduction
I make no claims to being the be all and end all of road safety. I just happen to have driven trucks for about 4 1/2 decades all over Oz. One would hope that over that period of time I have learnt something!
These "tips" are not written necessarily from the point of view of what is "law" but rather with a view of helping you to stay alive on our roads. You see, I not only drive a truck, but I am also a motorist like everyone else and do some 40,000 Kms around the countryside in my private vehicle. At this point in time that is a Holden Rodeo 4 X 4 utility (pickup truck).
Because I have exposure to both driving a heavy vehicle commercially and a 4 wheeler privately, I am able to empathize with the difficulties associated with driving both types.
Many people say driving is all "common sense". I would qualify that by saying that it is, however one needs to understand the real definition of the term "common sense". To me, all "common sense" is based upon prior knowledge. Since most people have never even ridden in a heavy vehicle, how the hell can they envisage all the operating parameters of driving one, such as stopping distance, blind spots etc?
Hopefully, after perusing these notes, you will learn a little about how to deal with truck as you have to share the road with them (and they with you)!
Enjoy and please don't be frightened to give me some feedback.
Kindest Regards
Indy
